Gotta like keeping Nathan around, although I wonder if that is the best use of financial resources

He will ensure we win the games we should but he cannot win em for us and if I was Billy Smith I would have looked at signing a closer long term only and I mean only when everything else was in order - last piece of the puzzle if you will - prioritizing to me is suspect here and proportionate spending also. All things considered I feel he got a great deal - also didn't we turn him into a closer way back in the day as he could not handle a start? After 8 innings of the opponent seeing 92 mph and less his 96 seems like 120mph. Love Nathan and all but I'm not stoked about this in the big scheme of things as his role will be minimized if we are not in contention or even in close ball games. Low scoring games in my opinion will not happen this year - the days of a 1-0 win and Nathan saving it are gone. Are we soft up the middle infield this year? Without cable and the newspaper I'm relying on this blog for my twins insight.
Perfect DC, I am now your Twins leader...
Up the middle, Defense at SS is supposed to be the best we have had in years, unfortunately, his bat blows. At second, we are supposed to have regressed in the field, but gained huge at the bat.
Gomez has made the team as the starting CF...extremely fast dude with an erratic cannon of an arm. Good things from the outfield with DYoung, Cuddy, and Gomez shutting down the opponents running game. I am cautiously optimistic that we might be better than most people think. However, the division seems to be dominant at the top with Detroit and Cleveland (although I'm still not sold on Cleveland. I think CC had a career year last year, and he'll revert back to form).
All in all, a good signing, just wish we still had a Yo-han to get us to Nathan more often than not.
Jacgue Jones had a erratic arm as well and was crazy gifted physically and talented but I always thought he was lacking that baseball sixth sense - is run production a issue now more than ever?
Based on what I have scoured...I believe run prevention, specifically the starting staff, will be a bigger issue than run production
Roger that
1. Nathan may not be our #1 need - but at least this shows they are willing to sign guys. Torii was too old and not worth his price tag (although they should have dealt him before the deadline last year) and Santana too - getting up there, and not as dominate as he once was - so probably not worth his price tag either.
Add Delmon Young to this lineup, and if Gomez can just be somewhat productive, Lamb can maybe hit .275 with 20 HR's, and then some production out of SS/2B - who knows.
We cannot afford any pitching injuries.
I am with Arkansas - I think there is potential here, no depth, but the starting lineup could do some damage if all the pieces come together.
Mauer, Cuddy, Morneau, Young is as good of a 2-3-4-5 punch as any team in the majors.
