Looking at these 4 struggling Twins players...
AVG OBP SLUG AB
Player A - .258 .319 .328 198
Player B - .252 .293 .413 155
Player C - .229 .294 .307 140
Player D- .234 .287 .468 94
Whom would you assume needs to be receive less playing time, and whom should get more?
Myself, I would take Players B and D and let them get more playing time. All 4 players averages are basically the same, but B and D far outslug the competition. The Twins would be better served getting B and D more at bats, and letting A and C chill out for a bit. Granted, defense isn't taken into account at all, but I would still take B and D.
Just thought I'd post some numbers since there has been a LOT of anti-Kubel (looking your way Zogg :)) without looking at the rest of our lineup.
Player A = Delmon Young
Player B = Jason Kubel
Player C = Michael Cuddyer
Player D = Craig Monroe

It is too bad we have to have these Twins OF discussions - as that was supposed to be a strong position for the Twinkies this year.
As for these stats - they do not mean much - all 4 players are similar in stats although player A was batting .280 and is in a slump, and player B was batting .220 and is hot.
The bigger question/concern is if you are the Twins what is your long term plan? And for that, you have to take age into account as well. Player A is 22, Player B is 26, Player C is 29 and player D is 31. That being said, Player A needs to play, since he is long term - as well as Player E, whom we will call "GoGo" (to protect the innocent.) That leaves 2 spots (OF and DH) for the final 3.
Player C, we will call "Cuddy" needs to play big or go home as well. Kubel, same situation - both are getting old (relatively speaking) - and if they are not going to pan out, better to drop them now. However, I think both have potential, and can help this squad.
Monroe I like, and would like to see him get more at bats.
So the Twins have to decide, 4 spots for 5 players, do they all split time - do they all need everyday at bats?
My vote is for the OF to stay how it is - and let Kubel and Monroe split time between DH and OF fill in duty. Sooner or later, somebody is bound to get hot and find their stroke.
The stats biggest point was the slugging percentage. It's all about driving the ball. Two of them drive the ball, two of them don't.
I whole heartedly disagree with Young though. He had 162 games last year, and was average at best. He has a sense of entitlement, and hasn't accomplished anything.
I agree on the ages for C and D, but B is still relatively young.
I was excited for Young when he first got here, but he sucks right now. Why does he get to play everyday and every inning?!?!? He isn't producing, sit him down
The guy is 22 years old - was #2 in Rookie of the year, and was batting .280 until last week - that is not bad - and a lot of potential. He has power, and it will come. Maybe the Twins need a new hitting coach while we are at it. Kubel is too much hit or miss right now - I have no problems with him in the lineup, but he needs to be consistent. At 25, 26 you need to start coming into your own. Not old yet - but also no more grooming time.
Cuddy also - produce or get out - and give those at bats to Kubel.
However GoGo and Young are young players and need time. That does not mean they cannot sit down here and there, but they need to play the majority and continue to get at bats.
Ortiz never drove the ball with us - but he came into his own - and Young has that same potential. I say in 3 years Young is an All Star - Gomez has that chance as well - but both need to develop.
We will regret the Young for Garza trade in 3 years....
No possible way we regret that trade. In 3 years we evaluate, loser owes a case of beer.
