Question

It is a good question, and I do agree, that we need to start hitting more homeruns.
Teams rarely stay in the top 6 of runs scored while being last in HR's.

I agree that home runs are nice - but not always necessary. That being said, I would take 9 guys hitting .300 and 1 HR over 9 guys batting .220 and 10 HR's.

HOWEVER - at 3B, we NEED a HR hitter. Lamb has to start producing, as he has lately. Young is fine, batting .280 - and the HR's will come out of him. Mauer is Mauer, he will occassionally hit a few, but he gets on base. Kubel hits HR's, but can't get his average up - and that hurts us much more.

And what is wrong with Cuddy - imagine how tough this team could be if Cuddy, Lamb and Kubel were to heat up.

Well, Iid take the 9 guys with 10 HR's...
The game is about scoring runs.
You go strictly on numbers, 90 homers is scoring more runs than 9 homers pretty much everyday. That being said, there has to be a balance. We need to start producing some HR hitters...

But you are talking 1 HR per game and 9 hits less per game. Base hits score runs just as much as HR's - about 2 hits per run - maybe 3. I agree we need a balance, but I would prefer Delmon Young and Joe Mauer to be .280 + and 10 HR's on the season, rather than .220 and 20 HR's.

Only if the hits are strung together. If not, they are pretty useless in producing a victory. End of the day, runs count. An HR is guaranteed scoing 1 run. A single, you need a couple more to produce a run.

So I take 9 Wade Boggs's - you take 9 Rob Deer's - pitcher is the same for both teams......I put a wager on it that my team wins 9 out 10 times at a minimum.

Plus, my guy gets his wallet stolen at Cheers by the Cheers gang.

Rob Deer was 190....give me someone with a 230, and I'm in.
And btw, you better hope that you string together more than a couple hits, because all it takes is one swing of the bat.

End of day, my point is, there isn't a huge difference between 230 and 300 when 300 comes with NO power.
