I like Mike defending the game but cmon. Okay then, the culture of this era of the game was to use illegal, controlled, banned substances to ensure baseball was profitable at the players health and future well being at stake - THATS CRAP and that culture is disgusting to me. To me the game is not about a 500' bomb but it is about all those little things that you need to do well to be successful as a team, backing up a throw or hitting the cut-off are the backbone of this game not seeing players eyes dilated in the on deck circle. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news;_ylt=Aqm5QyYu8kMSKCWa5VgFGEM5nYcB?slug=dw-seligmcmahon021709&prov=yhoo&type=lgns
Huck Finn said it best floating on the river with his buddy Jim, he said "Jim, why is it so easy to do the wrong things and so difficult to do the right things"
DC - My point on Schmidt is this, if you are looking at baseball players as heroes, you are bound to be let down. All they are is ball players, look at doctors and soliders as the heroes.
Thats a good point, especially the soldiers and all who contribute to the greater good of our world. Again, Barkley was great when he said "I am not a role model". The game is pure, it simply angers me a bit that some of the athletes and even Selig have compromised its integirty at the highest level of play to obtain results.
