Gabby

I'm with Souhan here...is there a bigger goal scorer in the NHL that just disappears for such long stretches?!?!? I mean, you don't even notice him on the ice, nevermind not scoring.
It's a mistake to pony up too much cash for him.

obviously he hasn't shown up in this series. He's had some really good chances, but he just hasn't been able to execute. I don't know if I would go as far as not signing him. He was finally healthy for the entire season and he lead the team in points and goals. I just don't know if I'm ready to say good bye. I think he needs develop more of the 'want'. I like Souhan's line about he doesn't create opportunities as well as he could. He's young. 26 years old I think. I'd sure like him to stick around for a while longer.

This is one of the most idiotic - non hockey minded articles I have ever read.

There are 2 arguments we need to go over.

First of all - Gabby IS an elite player. Without him, the Wild are not even in the playoffs, they are golfing right now during their offseason. The guy is the fastest and best skater in the league with a quick shot.

However, It IS true that your top notch players NEED to produce in the playoffs. The Avs are keying on him, but if that is the case, he needs to set up his linemates.

He is still moving and looking okay, he is getting shots off, just no breaks.

Plus, one of the other reasons here is his linemates. Demitra is the one who has done NOTHING and you do not even notice him on the ice. And the rotating center position between Voras and Belanger and Fedorik is not helping. Trying to protect Gabby with big men in the middle, mean the Avs can key on him even more, knowing he does not have many skilled players around him.

Gabby still deserves a contract and a good one, as without him, the Wild take 3 major steps backwards without any superstars. Rolston and Demitra are getting old - which leaves us with Koivu and Burns and Buachard.

Gabby = KG
Great talent, but shrinks in the big moments. I would rather take 3 steps back and get a guy who wants it more...I love Gabby, but when he goes away too much.
How often do you say *where's Crosby?* or *where's Ovechkin?* or even *where's Stansky?*

My point is, even if the other team is keying on him, he HAS to do something. He doesn't do anything. He just skates around the blue line waiting for something to happen. He needs to MAKE something happen

I disagree 100%. He does do stuff out there - it is one series where things have not gone his way. Good goaltending, defending him....etc. One guy cannot win championships in hockey - it takes a team. Ovechkin is not doing much for the Caps either - should they deal him away? Hell no.

Gabby is a solid player and there are not many like him in the NHL.

He is not just standing at the blue line, he is moving and creating chances, they are forcing him to shoot from the outside, and nobody is banging the net or getting open to make anything happen.

Look at Demitra and even LeMaire (not to mention the thin defensive unit) before you start to look at Gabby.

Perhaps a tad harsh on my part, but I demand a little more for my *superstar* title than just setting teammates up. Unless your Steve Nash (he's Canadian, so he counts), then you better do something other than skate around really fast. If that's all you do, then you are an average player and should be paid as such

The bottom line is this team needed to make another move at the trade deadline, look at what Hosa is doing in pitt, foresberg for the lanch, ect. Thinking this team was good enough where they could stand pat, and add only simon, was a farce. Good point about Dimetra, what has he done? Now thinking back what has he done all year?, sure he has been part of some of the years most memorable goals, but only with Gabby, hell, Gabby got Bluein on the highlight real one year.

Ballgame hit it on the head - and he is more correct than any of us. The team is eliminated not because they did not play hard, definitely not because Gabby was shut down - but because they did not do anything to bolster their team. The one guy they get - Simon - doesn't even really get any ice time in the playoffs. Demitra can go away - no wonder the Blues gave up on him. Rolston needs to stay. If the Wild can keep their big guns - Gabby, Koivu, Buachard, Rolston, Sheppard, Burns, Schulz, Bacstrom, and maybe get another guy or two from free agency, we should be able to make a run.

Notice how this non hockey mind Souhan today says that Gabby is great. What a joker. Had Gabby hadone good playoff game - people would say he is the franchise. He has one bad series, and he should leave. Sports columnists are so judgemental, and judge players by one game, rather than the entire package, it makes me laugh.

Gabby is still extremely overrated.

Does anyone else miss Andrew Brunette? Good move letting him go, if we still had him we wouldn't of had to make any trade deadline moves!
