A hitter who hits .300 (180 hits, 600 at bats) A hitter who hits .230 (140 hits, 600 at hats). 40 extra hits over the course of a 6 month season. That is one and a half hits per week. Granted, 300 is still nice, but 230 isn't horrible if it comes with power and walks. Kubel won't stay at 230, but it is way to early to consider his 230 as disappointing, especially considering he already has 6 HR's.
His .230 IS dissapointing! He is our DH - the Twins NEED a DH who can hit .270 and hit HR's. It would be nice for an in-house guy like Kubel to get it done, but if I am running this team - I get a veteran who can produce for sure (Jim Thome, Barry Bonds, ....etc) come trading deadline, if we are still in the hunt. If Kubel can produce by then, fine, otherwise, keep Kubel for a pinch hitter, extra OF, and get a consistent hitter in here for our DH.
That being said - same goes for Mike Lamb, shape up, or ship out. We have a ball club that could compete, just need a few hitters to be more consistent.
I'm all for bringing someone else in....but you better look in the direction of Lamb/Cuddyer/Young first. They have produce ONE HR total. That is much more piss poor than a DH batting 230
Again, not being a Kubel aplologist, because he really needs to start hitting more, but man in Young horrible...all this and NO power. His recent string of doubles and triples are grounders down the line. He just doesn't drive the ball.
Delmon Young is again swinging at everything, hitting into a lot of ground balls, and in his last five games, he is 1-20. That has dropped his average from .286 to .262

Yeah, the slam was nice, but the .230 is not. Come on Kubel, get hot or else we need a new DH.
